Edward Bellamy’s 1888 utopian novel Looking Backward: 2000–1887 serves as a critique of 19th-century capitalism, proposing a socialist, nationalized society to eliminate poverty, crime, and economic inequality. It promotes the idea that managed, cooperative economy can foster human goodness and social harmony.
